Why ProMaster Cargo Geometry Matters for Partition Choice

The ProMaster’s front-wheel-drive layout puts the engine and drivetrain ahead of the cargo bay, which gives the cargo floor a flat profile with no driveshaft tunnel running down the middle. That matters for fleet operators carrying sheet goods, conduit bundles, ladders, and anything else that benefits from full-width floor access. The 75-inch span between wheel wells is wider than Ford Transit or Mercedes Sprinter, and the partition sits directly behind a tall, vertical cab with limited contour. ProMaster partitions are typically flat full-height; contoured designs offer less benefit on this body because the cab profile is already close to vertical. We stock partitions for ProMaster 1500, 2500, and 3500 in 118, 136, and 159 wheelbase. Roof height options cover standard and high roof. Hardware is specific to each configuration.

ProMaster Variants and Partition Fitment

ProMaster sells in three weight ratings (1500, 2500, and 3500) which differ in suspension, payload, and brake spec but use identical cargo bay geometry. The partition that fits a 1500 fits a 2500 and a 3500 in the same wheelbase and roof. Wheelbase is the variable that matters: 118 is the short-body city delivery configuration, 136 is the most common service-trade build, and 159 is the long-body fleet option for high-volume cargo. Standard roof and high roof differ by about 30 centimetres of vertical clearance. The partition mounting pattern is the same regardless of wheelbase or roof, but the panel dimensions change with roof height. Window cutouts are available for cab-to-cargo visibility, popular with delivery drivers and shuttle operators. Ladder pass-through cutouts are available for trades carrying 12-foot and 16-foot ladders.

Steel or Aluminum for a ProMaster

ProMaster fleet operators tend to split roughly even between steel and aluminum, with the deciding factor usually being load type. Plumbers carrying copper, electricians with conduit reels, and HVAC techs with heavy equipment lean steel for impact resistance and lower long-term cost. Delivery operators, contractors hauling lighter cargo, and fleets running fuel-economy programs lean aluminum. Aluminum saves roughly 18 to 22 kilograms per partition on a ProMaster, which matters more on a 1500 with a smaller payload buffer than on a 3500. Front-wheel-drive ProMasters are sensitive to nose-heavy weight distribution, and aluminum partitions help keep the load profile balanced. The Canadian winter argument favours aluminum too: road salt does not corrode it, and uncoated steel partitions in salt-belt provinces eventually show surface rust. Powder-coated steel performs well, but aluminum needs no coating at all.

What Ships and How a ProMaster Install Works

Every ProMaster partition ships fitment-ready: the panel or panel set, all mounting hardware, factory-spec bolts and washers, weather seal, and a printed install guide for someone doing the work themselves. ProMaster install is straightforward: the flat cargo floor and clear vertical mounting wall make this one of the easier vans to partition. A standard install takes two to three hours for one person with basic hand tools. The bolt pattern lines up with factory anchor points. No drilling into structural members, no welding, no fabrication. Fleet customers running ten or more ProMasters can have install handled at our Waterloo facility, which makes sense when procurement wants vehicles delivered ready to service. The dropship path is the default. Shipping is by ground freight from Ontario, reaching most Canadian provinces inside five business days.

NSM-Certified and Built for Canadian Service

Every ProMaster partition we build carries the National Safety Mark, Transport Canada’s federal certification for vehicle modifications. NSM is what fleet auditors check, what provincial inspections require, and what insurance carriers reward. Most US-built partitions imported into Canada do not carry NSM, which creates compliance problems for fleet operators. We build in Waterloo, Ontario, source materials Canadian where possible, and engineer for Canadian conditions: salt, slush, freeze-thaw, and the temperature ranges that destroy hardware not designed for them. Thirty-five years building commercial van interiors means we have already seen what fails. Ships go to Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Hamilton, London, Halifax, Saskatoon, Regina, Victoria, Mississauga, Brampton, Kitchener, Cambridge, Guelph, Burlington, and Brantford. Same partition. Same NSM cert. Same warranty.

RAM ProMaster Partition FAQs

The questions ProMaster owners and fleet managers ask most often when ordering a partition for a 1500, 2500, or 3500.

Yes. The three weight ratings use identical cargo bay geometry and anchor points. The variable that changes partition fit is wheelbase (118, 136, 159) and roof height (standard or high). Order by wheelbase and roof; weight rating does not affect fitment.

Yes. Cutouts for through-loading ladders, pipe, lumber, or tubing are available on most ProMaster partitions. Standard ladder pass-throughs accommodate 12-foot and 16-foot ladders. Custom cutouts can be ordered for specialty applications.

No. The partition mounts to the cab wall and floor anchor points, neither of which are affected by drivetrain layout. Front-wheel drive does shift the vehicle’s weight distribution slightly forward, which is one reason aluminum is a common pick on ProMaster.

Two to three hours for one person with basic hand tools. ProMaster is one of the easier commercial vans to partition because of its flat cargo floor and clear vertical mounting wall. The install guide is written for someone doing the work alone in their garage. If you would rather have it installed for you, our Waterloo facility handles in-house installs.

Yes. Every ProMaster partition carries the National Safety Mark, Transport Canada’s federal certification. Documented compliance for fleet audits, provincial inspections, and insurance. Few Canadian upfitters hold NSM; almost no US-imported partition carries it.
